Screen Overview

When you launch Reading Forest, you'll see a simple and easy-to-use interface. Understanding each area will help you navigate smoothly.

Data Structure

A reading log contains multiple books. Each book has its info (title, author, etc.) and can have multiple records.

Main Screen Layout

The screen consists of (from top to bottom): Header, Menu Bar, Filename & Book (Work) Count, and Book Cards. Book cards are arranged vertically and you scroll to browse them.

Header (Top)

  • Logo & Title
    Displays the "Reading Forest" logo and title. Click to return to the home page
  • Plan Badge
    Shows your current plan (Free Plan / Personal Plan / Group Plan)
  • Settings
    Click [File] → [Settings] from the menu to open settings. You can view and change theme (Light/Dark/Auto), display options, and shortcut list
  • Language Selector
    Switch between Japanese and English

Barcode Scanning Feature

Use your smartphone or tablet camera to scan ISBN barcodes and automatically retrieve book information.

  • Camera Scan: Real-time barcode recognition
  • Image File: Can also read from saved photos
  • Free to Use: Available on all plans

Filename & Book (Work) Count

  • Filename
    Shows the current reading log's filename. Click to rename
  • Book (Work) Count & Last Modified
    Displays the total number of registered books (works) as "X books (works)". When filtering is active, it shows "X books (works) (Showing: Y books (works))" with the filtered count. The file's last modified date and time is also displayed
  • File Path (Local files only)
    When opening a locally saved file, a green folder icon and filename are displayed. However, only the filename is shown—the full absolute path (e.g., C:\Users\...) is not displayed. This is due to browser security restrictions that prevent web applications from accessing detailed information about the user's file system structure

Book Cards

Each book is displayed as a "card" arranged vertically. Each card contains:

  • Selection Checkbox
    Checkbox for selecting books. Select multiple books for copy/delete operations
  • Book Title
    The title of the book. Click to edit
  • Search Button
    Click the magnifying glass button to search book databases (National Diet Library, Calil, Google Books, Amazon)
  • Book Information
    Shows author, total pages, cover image (if set), and notes. Click to edit
  • Progress Bar
    Colorful visual display of reading progress. Each record is shown in a different color
  • Records Table
    Three columns: Date, Page Range, and Notes. Click any row to edit

Operation Tips

  • Book Selection
    Ctrl+click for multiple selection, Shift+click for range selection
  • Edit Mode
    Click on book title or info area to open the edit form
  • Adding Records
    Click the "+" button at the bottom of each book card to add a new record
  • Find and Replace
    Press Ctrl+F to find, Alt+H for find and replace

First Time Launch

When you first launch the app, you'll be ready to enter book information immediately. Simply enter the book title and click OK to register your first book.

Mobile Display

On smartphones, the layout adjusts to screen width. The menu bar becomes a hamburger menu, and Undo/Redo buttons float at the bottom right of the screen.
