July was about getting your records in and out, and keeping them safe. We added CSV import, merged saving into a single action, and moved cover images inside your reading log file. Here are the main updates.

CSV Import NEW

You can now load a file written in Reading Forest's CSV format via [File] → [Import (CSV)]. Export a CSV, tidy it up in a spreadsheet, and bring it back — or merge records that are split across separate files. Imported titles are merged into an existing entry when the title and author match, and added as new entries when they do not. Importing into an empty library works too, and you can undo the import right after it runs (available on all plans).

More Columns in CSV Export

CSV export now includes four more columns: ISBN, rating, credits (with roles such as author or director), and media type. The existing columns are unchanged, including their order, so any spreadsheet you already point at your CSV keeps working. Together with the import above, you can now export to CSV and bring it back. (For a complete backup with every detail, keep using the .rfnote file.)

Saving Merged into a Single "Save"

You no longer choose between local and cloud every time you save. The menu now has one "Save": on a computer it saves locally and, if Google Drive is connected with auto-sync on, syncs to the cloud in the same step. On a phone it saves to the cloud when Drive is connected with auto-sync on (so repeated saves do not pile up downloads), and to the device when it is not connected or auto-sync is off. To keep files local only, turn auto-sync off in Settings.

Cover Images Stored Inside the Reading Log File

Cover images are no longer kept as separate files on Google Drive. By default they are now embedded in the reading log file (.rfnote). Nothing can break the link, covers show up offline, and handing over a single file takes the covers with it. Images are compressed to WebP automatically, so each one stays in the tens of kilobytes. Covers fetched automatically from an ISBN are embedded the same way, and covers that were previously stored as separate files are pulled into the reading log file the next time you save. While a pasted cover is being processed, "Setting cover..." is shown so you can tell it is working.

Drawing Tool Refinements Personal & Group only

ClickingTapping a figure in a note now offers "Edit" and "Center / Left align", so you can place a figure in the middle of your text. The alignment is saved with the record and is still there next time you open it. In the drawing tool, grid and point snapping now turn blue while they are on, so you can see at a glance which mode you are in.

In June we delivered two major features: a Drawing Tool for sketching figures right into your reading notes, and a Study Schedule that tells you the reading pace you need to reach your goals. Here is a summary of the key updates.

Drawing Tool (Insert Figures) NEW Personal & Group only

Draw circles, lines, arrows, rectangles, ellipses, polygons, and labels by dragging, and insert them straight into your notes as SVG. Launch it in a record's edit mode via [Edit] → [Insert] → [Figure] — great for geometry diagrams, concept maps, and simple graphs in STEM reading notes. Because it is SVG, figures stay crisp at any zoom, and you can re-edit an inserted figure anytime by clickingtapping it. Grid & point snapping and finger/pen drawing on phones and tablets are supported (viewing figures works on all plans).

Study Schedule NEW

The Study Schedule automatically calculates the daily and weekly pace you need from each book's target completion date, total pages, and your daily records. Three tabs — "Today's Plan," "Weekly Plan," and "Subject Balance" — show today's page range and whether you are ahead or behind at a glance. Check subject balance via note hashtags (#math, #english, etc.); no extra input is needed. Open it from the [View] menu.

Progress Now Based on "Pace"

Progress is now judged by whether you are reading fast enough to meet your target completion date, not just by "percent read". It compares your last-7-day pace with the required pace and color-codes it as "On great pace / On track / Slightly behind / Well behind." Books you have not touched for a while are marked "Paused," and books past their date "Overdue." Hover over the badge to see the required vs. recent pace breakdown.

Based on your requests and reports, we delivered many new features and improvements throughout May as well. Here is a summary of the key updates.

New Achievement View NEW

A new Achievement View displays the books and titles you have finished as a cover-image gallery. See everything you have read and watched at a glance — a great motivation boost for your next title.

Priority on a 1–5 Scale NEW

Priority has been expanded from the three levels "High / Medium / Low" to a 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest) scale. Lists show a colored numeric badge (5 = red, 4 = orange, 3 = yellow, 2 = blue, 1 = gray), so you can clearly order even items of similar importance. Existing data is migrated automatically, so your previous settings carry over.

Reading Calendar by Media Type NEW

The shelf's reading calendar can now be switched by tabs for Books / Movies/TV / Music Shelf: Personal & Group only. Track your recording pace for each media type on its own calendar.

Improved Search Highlighting

In-page search highlighting is now two-tiered: all hits appear in light yellow and the current position in deep blue, so it is easier to see where you are. Highlights also remain after you close the search, making it easier to compare results while you work.

Cloud "Newer Version" Check NEW

When you open a local file, if a newer version with the same name exists on Google Drive, a confirmation dialog (Local / Cloud / Cancel) is shown. This prevents editing an outdated version after missing a cloud-side update (available on the free plan too, as long as you are connected to Google Drive).

Further Spaced-Repetition Upgrades

Review reminders can now show the "question" extracted from your note right in the notification, so you can quiz yourself the moment you see it. You can also set the notification time freely to match your daily rhythm.

Sort by "Priority" and "Target Date"

"Priority" and "Target completion date" were added to the main sort menu, so you can reorder with a single tap even on mobile (shown automatically depending on your display mode). The label was also changed from "Target date" to "Target completion date" for clarity.

Enhanced Note Copy & Paste

Cut / Copy / Paste / Select All were added to the note editing menu, and you can now long-press to freely edit notes on mobile. Selecting and copying ordinary text on the page is also supported, so you can quote what you need quickly.

A More Reassuring Contact Form

The contact form now has a copy-your-message feature so you can keep a copy of your text before sending. We also suppressed the "Leave this site?" warning on submit, reducing the chance of accidentally losing what you typed.

One and a half months have passed since our official launch on March 15. Based on your feedback, we delivered many new features and improvements throughout April. Here is a summary of the key updates.

Local ↔ Google Drive Auto Sync NEW

Two-way automatic sync between local folders and Google Drive. Local edits flow to Drive automatically, and Drive updates flow back to local. Auto-synced files are registered in your shelf, making multi-device use smoother Shelf: Personal & Group only.

Major Spaced-Repetition Upgrade NEW

OS notifications + Web Push via Cloudflare Workers — notifications arrive even when the browser is closed. ClickTap a notification to start the review flow directly. Auto re-check after the scheduled time prevents missed reviews. The first line of your note is shown as a hint in the notification.

Book Search Overhaul

Official Google Books API key for faster, more stable search. Automatic fallback to NDL (National Diet Library) when no hit is found Personal & Group only. Main-title exact-match filter eliminates unrelated results Personal & Group only. Credit information is always displayed in search results.

Enhanced Media Support

Added "Channel" credit type for better YouTube and TV show records. New media type filter (Books / Movies/TV / Music) on the reading volume graph. Extended credit display in lists (director, composer, etc.); also available in shelves Shelf: Personal & Group only.

Better Reading Experience NEW

Added page-turn animations (slide / 3D flip toggle) in reading mode. Paste cover images directly from the clipboard with Ctrl+V. Redesigned the edit form into a two-tier layout for easier input.

Usability Improvements

Fixed: sort order not being applied, editing being unavailable when the filename is empty, white screen when submitting bug reports. Settings modal can now be closed by tapping outside, and copy/paste issues in mobile input fields were resolved. Many other small fixes.

Image Perspective Correction NEW

You can now apply perspective correction (keystone correction) to photos of book pages directly in the lightbox. Photos taken at an angle can be corrected to appear as if taken straight on. Results are reflected in your notes with full undo/redo support.

YouTube Mini PlayerPlayback NEW

Paste a YouTube URL in your notes and clicktap the icon to play the video. A built-in mini player supports playlist expansion and automatic title display.Videos open directly in the YouTube app.

ClickTap-to-Zoom Images in Notes NEW

ClickTap images in your notes to view them in a lightbox with zoom. Mouse wheel zoom is supported.Pinch-to-zoom is supported. Rotation and OCR are available from the context menu.

Score Tracking Graph NEW

Write #score 15/20 in your notes to visualize your score trends as a graph. Perfect for tracking test and workbook performance over time.

Major Review Reminder Improvements

The review reminder system has been significantly enhanced. The ⏰ icon now shows graduated urgency levels — growing larger and flashing red when overdue. ClickTap the icon to mark a review as complete, see a ✅ when all reviews are done, receive cross-file banner notifications, and undo completions.

Login UX Improvements

The app now remembers your previous login method to streamline the login process. OAuth users see Google login guidance, and a warning is displayed in incognito mode.

Device Login Notification Toggle

You can now turn device login notification emails ON or OFF in Settings.

Haptic Feedback Setting

You can now enable or disable haptic feedback for interactions on mobile devices.

Mobile UI Improvements

The notes area is now wider on mobile, dates display on two lines, and screen rotation lock is available — improving the mobile experience overall.

Help Page Search

A site-wide and in-page search UI has been added to Help pages, making it easier to find what you need.

Google Drive Available on Free Plan

Google Drive integration, previously limited to paid plans, is now available on the Free Plan as well.

Security Enhancements

Added HSTS headers and OAuth device limit checks to strengthen security.
