How to Cancel Your Paid Plan
Instructions for canceling your Reading Forest paid plan (Personal or Group)
About Cancellation
You can cancel your Reading Forest paid plan at any time. The cancellation process is simple and takes only a few minutes. After cancellation, you will automatically switch to the free plan and can continue using the service.
Stripe is a secure online payment service used worldwide. Reading Forest uses Stripe to process payments. The cancellation process is done through the "Billing Portal" provided by Stripe.
Please Check Before Canceling
- Cancellation Options: You can choose "Cancel at Period End" or "Cancel Immediately" in the Billing Portal
- Cancel at Period End (Recommended): You can use paid plan features until the end of your current billing period
- Cancel Immediately: You will switch to the free plan immediately upon completing cancellation
- Refunds: Payments already made are not refundable and are not prorated
- Data Retention: Your data is not deleted after cancellation, but free plan limits (20 books per file) will apply
- If You Have 21+ Books: The free plan limits files to 20 books, so files with 21+ books become read-only. You'll need to split your file
- You Can Resubscribe: You can upgrade to a paid plan again at any time after cancellation
Cancellation Steps (3 Easy Steps)
- After logging into Reading Forest, the "⚙️ Settings" button in the top right
- When the settings dialog opens, select the "Account" tab
You can check your current plan status, next renewal date, and billing history in the Billing Portal.
- the "Cancel Plan" button in the "Plan Management" section of the Account tab
- The Billing Portal (Stripe) will open in a new tab
- Select "Cancel Plan" in the portal
Clicking the cancel button doesn't immediately cancel your subscription. There's a final confirmation in the Billing Portal.
In the Billing Portal, you can choose from two cancellation methods:
① Cancel at Period End (Recommended)
- You can use paid plan features until the end of your current billing period
- Example: Cancel on Dec 1 → Use paid features until Dec 31 → Switch to free plan on Jan 1
- Payments already made are not refunded (no proration)
② Cancel Immediately
- You will switch to the free plan immediately
- Paid plan features will become unavailable right away
- Payments already made are not refunded
Cancellation Steps:
- Select a cancellation reason in the Billing Portal (optional)
- Choose your preferred cancellation method from the two options above
- the "Confirm Cancellation" button
- A cancellation confirmation message will be displayed
- A confirmation email will be sent to your registered email address
If you choose "Cancel at Period End," you can continue using paid features for the remainder of your paid period. We recommend this option unless you need to cancel immediately.
