Expected Restrictions and Status

Restriction Status Solution
Web Filtering Request Required Whitelist addition request is required
Local File Storage Supported Works with browser storage (localStorage)
Google Drive Integration Varies Depends on school's Google Workspace settings
PWA Installation
*See below
Varies Can be used as a web app in the browser

What is PWA (Progressive Web App)?

PWA is a technology that allows you to "install a website like an app" on your smartphone or computer.

  • Add icon to home screen - Launch with a single tap
  • Works offline - View reading records even without internet
  • No app store required - Install directly from browser

On school-managed devices, PWA installation may be restricted by administrator settings. Even in this case, you can still use it as a regular website in the browser.

Protecting Your Reading Records

Important: Data Storage on School Devices

On school-managed devices, browser local storage (localStorage) may be periodically cleared as a security measure. This could result in the loss of reading records saved in Reading Forest.

To protect your valuable reading records, we recommend the following measures.

Data Protection Methods

Method 1: Google Drive Sync (Recommended)

Logging in with your school Google account allows you to save your reading records to Google Drive.

  1. Open the Login page and log in with your school Google account
  2. After logging in, select [File]→[Save]→[Cloud] in Reading Forest
  3. Your reading records will be saved to Google Drive

Once saved, even if the device data is deleted, you can load it from Google Drive via [File]→[Open]→[Cloud].

Some schools may restrict Google Drive integration. If so, try Method 2.

Method 2: Send to Yourself via Email

Even without a home computer, you can backup via your school email.

  1. In Reading Forest, select [File]→[Save]→[Local]
  2. The file (.rfnote) will be downloaded
  3. Create a new email to yourself in your email app
  4. Attach the .rfnote file and send

Files attached to emails are preserved, so when you want to load your reading records, you can retrieve the file from email and open it in Reading Forest.

Method 3: Manual Upload to Google Drive

If Method 1 (saving directly to Google Drive from Reading Forest) is blocked by security settings, you can manually upload the file to Google Drive.

  1. In Reading Forest, select [File]→[Save]→[Local]
  2. The file (.rfnote) will be saved to the device's "Downloads" folder
  3. Open Google Drive with your school Google account
  4. In Google Drive, click [New]→[File upload] and upload the .rfnote file
Method Requirements Recommendation
① Google Drive Sync School Google account ★★★ Best
② Email Backup School email address ★★☆ Good
③ Manual Google Drive Upload School Google account ★★☆ Good

Tip: Make it a habit to backup regularly, such as once a week. Once your reading records are lost, they cannot be recovered.

For IT Administrators: Enabling Google Drive Integration

To enable Google Drive integration for Reading Forest in your school's Google Workspace for Education environment, the following configuration may be required.

  1. Access Google Admin Console
    Log in to admin.google.com.
  2. Check Security Settings
Navigate to [Security]→[Access and data control]→[API controls]→[Manage third-party app access]
  3. Allow the App (if needed)
Search for "Reading Forest" or "allisone.co.jp" in the app list. If access is blocked, add it as a trusted application.

Reading Forest only accesses the app-specific folder (AppData) within Google Drive. It does not access other files.
