About This Page

The main screen is the most frequently viewed screen when using Reading Forest. It consists of the menu bar, toolbar, book display area, and other elements.

Screen Layout Overview

The main screen consists of the following elements from top to bottom:

Menu Bar

Access all Reading Forest features from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Toolbar

The toolbar below the menu bar contains buttons for frequently used functions.

Button States
Some buttons switch between enabled and disabled (grayed out) depending on the situation. For example, the "Save" button is disabled when no file is open.

Sort Dropdown

Use the "Sort by" dropdown above the book display area to change the display order of books.

Sort Order Description
None Display in registration order (no sorting)
📚 Title Sort alphabetically by book title
✍️ Author Sort alphabetically by author name
📄 Page Count Sort by total page count
📊 Completion Rate Sort by completion rate percentage
📅 Last Read Date Sort by the last reading date
📝 Note Lines Sort by number of note lines
🎯 Est. Completion Sort by estimated completion date based on reading pace
Toggle Ascending/Descending
Use the ascending/descending dropdown next to the sort order dropdown to select "↑ Ascending" or "↓ Descending".

Book Display Area

Your registered books are displayed as cards. When you select a book, its progress graph and reading records are displayed.

For a more detailed list view, open [View]→[Book List] from the menu or press Alt+L.

Book Info

Each card contains the following information:

  • Cover Image - Book cover (if registered)
  • Title - Book title
  • Author - Author/Editor name
  • Progress Bar - Visual display of reading progress
  • Reading Status - Badge showing "Want to Read", "Reading", "Completed", etc.
Book Operations
  • Click - Select the book and display reading records and progress graph below
  • Double-click - Open the book information edit screen
  • Right-click - Show context menu (Edit, Delete, etc.)
  • Checkbox - Multiple selection mode (for batch operations)

Progress Graph

Each book card displays a line graph showing your reading progress.

  • X-axis - Date
  • Y-axis - Completion rate (0%-100%)
  • Blue line - Completion rate over time (actual)
  • Orange dotted line - Completion prediction (based on reading pace)
Display Range Toggle
  • Data - Show only the period with reading records
  • Forecast - Show the period up to the predicted completion date
Graph Operations
  • Hover - Display detailed information for data points
  • Hover on Unread Sections - Display unread page ranges

Progress Bar

Books with reading records and total pages display a colorful horizontal progress bar.

  • Colored segments - Each corresponds to a reading record, showing the page range read
  • Different colors - Each date is displayed in a different color, showing when you read
  • Gray segments - Indicate page ranges not yet read
  • Hover - Hover over each segment to see details of the corresponding reading record

Reading Records Area

Each book card displays the reading records for that book in chronological order.

  • Date - Reading date
  • Page Range - Range of pages read (e.g., 1-50)
  • Notes - Notes written at the time of recording

Reading Record Operations

  • [Add Reading Record] button - Add a new reading record
  • Double-click - Enter edit mode for the reading record
  • In edit mode - You can edit date, page range, and notes; save, cancel, and delete buttons are displayed
