Overview

"Open from Local" is a feature that lets you open files saved on your computer or device in Reading Forest.
It supports various file formats including PDF, TXT, and HTML.

How to Open Files

There are three ways to open files.

From Menu

Open from the File menu

File → Local → Open

Keyboard Shortcut

Quickly open with keyboard shortcut

Drag & Drop

Drag files to the screen to open

Drop file

Method 1: From Menu

  1. Open the File menu Click "File" in the menu bar.
  2. Click "Local" → "Open" From the submenu, select "Local" and then click "Open".
  3. Select a file Select the file you want to open. Double-click folders to open them.
  4. Click "Open" With the file selected, click the "Open" button.

Method 2: Keyboard Shortcut

Quick Open
Press Ctrl+O (Mac: +O) to open the file selection dialog.
  1. Press Ctrl+O When you press the keyboard shortcut, the file selection dialog opens.
  2. Select and open file Select the file you want to open and click "Open" or press Enter.

Method 3: Drag & Drop

You can open files simply by dragging and dropping them onto the Reading Forest screen.

  1. Select file in File Explorer Select the file you want to open in File Explorer (Explorer/Finder).
  2. Drag to Reading Forest Drag the file to the Reading Forest browser window.
  3. Drop to open Drop the file (release the mouse button) on the screen to open it.

Bulk Registration of Multiple Files
Select multiple files and drag & drop them to register them all at once to the book list.

Notes

About File Size
Large files (over 100MB) may take time to load.
Please wait while the file is loading.
Password-Protected PDFs
When opening a password-protected PDF file, you will be prompted to enter the password.
Bookshelf Feature
With paid plans, enabling the "Bookshelf" feature allows quick access to previously opened files.
