About Cloud Saving

Save to Google Drive and access from multiple devices. Saving to Google Drive is done manually. Please explicitly save at your preferred timing.

No Auto-Sync Feature
Reading Forest does not have automatic cloud saving. To keep your edits, please manually save to Google Drive.

Local Auto-Backup

Your edits are automatically backed up to your browser (IndexedDB) 5 minutes after your last edit. This is a crash protection feature and does not save to the cloud.

  • Backups are stored locally (in your browser)
  • Auto-saves 5 minutes after last edit
  • Keeps up to 5 backups
Restoring from Backup
You can create manual backups via Menu → [Edit]→[Save State]. Restoration can be done from the Settings screen.

  1. With a book open, click [File]→[Save] (or press )
  2. From the submenu, select "Google Drive"
  3. Google Drive authentication dialog may appear (first connection only)
  4. The "Save to Cloud" dialog will appear (see image below)
  5. To change the destination folder, click the "Browse" button on the right side of the "Destination Folder" field
  6. To change the filename shown in the "Filename" field, type directly in the input box
  7. Click the "Save" button at the bottom right of the dialog
  8. A notification will appear at the bottom right of the screen when saving is complete

Saving Tips

Organize Your Folders
Create a "Reading Forest" folder in Google Drive with subfolders by genre for easier management.
Save as Backup
Save the same file with a different name to create a backup at a specific point in time. Example: "Reading Logs_20240120.rfnote"
File Size Limits
Reading Forest has file size limits (Free plan: 1MB, Paid plans: 10MB).

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What happens if I save with the same filename?
An overwrite confirmation dialog will appear. You can choose to overwrite or save with a different name.
Q: Can I save while offline?
When offline, files are temporarily saved locally. Please manually save to the cloud when your internet connection is restored.
Q: What if saving fails?
An error message will be displayed. Please check your Google Drive connection status and storage capacity.
