💬 What is the Impression Feature?
Reading Forest lets you write a short impression after finishing a book. Combined with the 5-star rating, record "what the book was like" in your own words. Unlike individual record notes, this serves as an overall review of the entire book.
✨ Key Features
- ✏️ Input from Book Info Screen The impression field is located right below the star rating in the book info edit screen. Jot down a quick thought right when you finish reading.
- 🔢 Character Counter A real-time character counter is displayed as you type. Up to 140 characters is recommended for social media sharing, but there is no hard limit.
- 📋 View in Book List In the catalog (book list) view, hover over a book title to see the impression as a tooltip. Browse your collection while reflecting on past readings.
- 📊 Excel Export Support Impressions are included in Excel exports, making them available for reading data analysis and organization.
🎯 How to Use
Writing an impression:
Click a book title to open the book info screen.
Enter text in the "Impression" field below the star rating.
It saves when you click [Save] or click outside the field.
Viewing impressions:
The impression appears in italic on the main screen's book info area.
You can also see it as a tooltip by hovering over the title in the book list.
💡 Tips for Use
- Write Right After Finishing Capture your feelings before they fade. When you look back later, you'll remember exactly how the book made you feel.
- Use as a Recommendation Note Write something like "Perfect for fans of mystery novels" so you can quickly reference it when recommending books to friends.
- Distinguish from Record Notes Use record notes for detailed chapter-by-chapter memos and quotes. Use impressions for your overall verdict on the entire book.
- Keep SNS Sharing in Mind Writing within 140 characters makes it easy to post directly to social media. Integration with card image generation is planned for the future.
📝 Impressions vs. Record Notes
Reading Forest has two text features: "Record Notes" and "Impressions." Here's how they differ:
| Record Notes | Impression | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Individual reading entries | The entire book |
| Purpose | Summaries, quotes, insights | Overall review after finishing |
| Length | No limit (long text OK) | No limit (140 chars recommended) |
| Location | Record edit screen | Book info screen |
