How do I backup my data?

Reading Forest offers two backup methods.

Method 1: Save to Local File

Save your data as a file on your computer or smartphone.

  1. Select "File" > "Save" from the menu at the top
  2. Click "Save" (on the first save, specify the destination folder and filename)
  3. The file is saved (while connected to Google Drive, it is automatically backed up to the cloud as well)

Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + S (Mac: Cmd + S)

Method 2: Save to Google Drive (Recommended)

Save to the cloud with your Google account and access from multiple devices.

  1. Connect to Google Drive in the settings (log in with your Google account)
  2. Turn on "Auto Sync" in the settings (on by default)
  3. After that, simply use [File]→[Save] and your data is automatically saved to the cloud as well

Important: Backup Regularly

If you only use local saves, data may be lost due to device failure or browser data clearing. We recommend saving files regularly or using Google Drive integration.
