Learn how to select books efficiently
Book Selection
In Reading Forest, you can select books in various ways. Master selection methods from single selection to multiple selection and range selection to match your workflow.
Basic Selection
The most basic selection method is to click on a book card. The selected book will be highlighted, and notes and quotes will be displayed in the right area.
- Single Selection (Click a book)
Click on a book card to select it. The selected book will have its background color changed, and notes and quotes will be displayed on the right. - Deselect (Click elsewhere)
Click on an empty space in the book list to deselect all selections. Also, clicking on another book will deselect the previous selection and select the new book.
Multiple Selection (Ctrl/Cmd + Click)
If you want to select multiple books at the same time, press and hold the Ctrl key (Windows) or Cmd key (Mac) while clicking. This method allows you to select books that are located far apart at once.
- For Windows
Hold down the Ctrl key and click on books to add new books while preserving existing selections. - For Mac
Hold down the Cmd key and click on books to add new books while preserving existing selections. - Adding and Removing Selection
Ctrl/Cmd + clicking on an already selected book will deselect that book.
Selecting multiple books with Ctrl+Click
Example: Click the 1st book → Ctrl+click to add the 3rd → Ctrl+click to add the 5thRange Selection (Shift + Click)
If you want to select multiple consecutive books at once, use Shift + click. This method is very convenient when you need to select many books at once.
- Range Selection Steps
1. Click the first book in the range
2. Hold down the Shift key and click the last book in the range
3. All books between the first and last will be selected - Extending the Range
While holding down the Shift key, click another book to easily extend the selection range.
Range selection steps (Click 1st → Shift+click 5th → All from 1st to 5th are selected)
Example: Click the 1st book → Shift+click the 5th book → All books from 1st to 5th are selectedSelect All (Ctrl/Cmd + A)
If you want to select all books at once, use the keyboard shortcut.
- Keyboard Shortcut
For Windows: Ctrl + A key
For Mac: Cmd + A key
When the book list window is active, executing this shortcut will select all books. - Select All Button in Book List Window
You can also select all books by selecting [Edit] → [Select All] from the menu bar.
Actions After Selection
After selecting books, you can perform various operations. The available operations differ depending on the number of books selected.
- Delete (Delete/Backspace key)
You can delete selected books. If multiple books are selected, all will be deleted. A confirmation dialog will be displayed before deletion. - Copy (Ctrl+C) *Paid Plan
You can copy the information of selected books to the clipboard. You can also paste it into other applications. - Cut (Ctrl+X) *Paid Plan
You can move the information of selected books to the clipboard. After cutting, you can paste it elsewhere. - Save to Another File
You can save selected books to another reading note file. Useful for organizing and categorizing books.
About Paid Plan Features
Copy (Ctrl+C) and Cut (Ctrl+X) functions are only available in the paid plan. Even with the free plan, all basic operations such as deletion and saving to another file are available.

Tip
You can manage books more efficiently by combining selection operations. For example, after selecting a range with Shift + click, you can exclude specific books from the selection with Ctrl/Cmd + click. Try various combinations to find the operation method that suits you best.
