About Text Decoration

Reading Forest allows you to apply decorations such as bold, italic, text color, and marker highlights to text in your notes. This is useful for emphasizing key points and organizing information with color coding.

How to Apply Decorations

Method 1: Popup Menu (Desktop)

  1. Select text in display mode
    Drag to select text in a saved note
  2. The popup menu appears
    A decoration menu automatically appears near the selected text
  3. Click a decoration button
    Choose the decoration you want: bold, italic, color, etc.

Method 2: From the Edit Menu

  1. Select text during inline editing
    Select text in the note input field
  2. Choose [Edit] → [Decoration]
    Select a decoration from [Edit] → [Decoration] in the menu bar
Tip
On smartphones, selecting text will display a decoration modal dialog.

Text Color & Marker

When choosing colors from the popup menu, you can pick from 50 theme colors and 10 standard colors. You can also enter any hex color code (e.g., #c00000).

Size Changes

Larger <size=1.3em>text</size> Display at 1.3x normal size
Smaller <size=0.8em>text</size> Display at 0.8x normal size

FAQ

Q: The popup menu doesn't appear

The popup menu appears when you select text in display mode of a saved note. It does not appear in the text input field during editing, but you can use [Edit] → [Decoration] from the menu bar instead.

Q: How do I remove a decoration?

Select the decorated text and click the same decoration button again to remove it. You can also directly delete the tags (e.g., <b>...</b>) during inline editing.

Q: Can I combine multiple decorations?

Yes. You can apply multiple decorations together, such as bold + text color, or marker + italic.
