What is Notes and Thoughts?

In Reading Forest, you can freely write notes and thoughts about books. You can record everything about your reading experience including memorable quotes, impressive scenes, and your own reflections.

Main Features

  • Free-form Writing For each reading day, you can freely record not only book quotes but also your thoughts and analyses.
  • Multi-line Support Use line breaks to organize text into paragraphs for easy reading. Long thoughts are displayed beautifully.
  • Searchable Note contents are also searchable, so you can find past thoughts using keywords.
  • Image URL Support Enter an image URL to display images within your notes. You can also record illustrations of impressive scenes.

Comments for the Entire Book

In addition to notes for each reading day, you can also record comments about the book as a whole.

  • Overall Impressions Record your overall review and general impressions after finishing the book.
  • Ratings and Reviews Rate with 5 stars, recommendation level, etc., using your own evaluation criteria.
  • Tagging Include genres, themes, keywords in your comments to make them easier to categorize and search later.

Tips for Using Notes

  • Record impressive quotes Writing down memorable lines or passages as they are brings back the emotions when you read them later.
  • Write down questions and analyses Recording questions you felt while reading and your own analyses will be helpful for book clubs or re-reading.
  • Record your reading environment Recording details like "read at a cafe" or "on a rainy day" makes memories more vivid when you look back.
  • Note related books Making notes of other works by the same author or related book titles can be helpful when choosing what to read next.

How to Insert Images in Notes (Paid Plan)

You can insert images such as photos taken with your smartphone into notes. Share images via Google Drive and include the link in your notes.

Steps on Smartphone

  1. Take a photo: Photograph the book page or interesting passages
  2. Upload to Google Drive:
    • Open the Google Drive app
    • Tap "+" at bottom right → "Upload" → Select photo
  3. Get the sharing link:
    • Tap "..." menu on the uploaded image → "Copy link"
    • Or "Share" → "Copy link"
    • Set access permission to "Anyone with the link"
  4. Write in notes:
    • In Reading Forest's note field, write in this format:
    • ![Photo description](copied URL)

Google Drive sharing links are automatically converted to image display URLs.

Note: Image insertion is limited to paid plans (Personal Plan / Group Plan). On the Free Plan, URLs are displayed as text.
