Can I Use My Own Website Files?

Reading Forest doesn't directly access website files

You can manage files in two ways:

Local Files

Read and write files
saved on your computer

Completely private
No internet required
Self-managed backup

Google Drive

Read and write files
in the cloud

Access from multiple devices
Access from anywhere
Automatic backup

Recommended Usage

If you only use one computer at home → Use Local Files
If you also use a phone or tablet → Use Google Drive

How to share your reading logs

You can easily share your reading log files with others using Google Drive's sharing feature.

How to share

  1. Save your reading log to Google Drive from Reading Forest
  2. Open Google Drive (drive.google.com)
  3. Right-click the file → "Share" → Change to "Anyone with the link"
  4. Send the sharing link to others

Shared reading logs are view-only. Others can see but not change your original file.

Share on Your Home Network (LAN)

If your computers are connected to the same Wi-Fi or local network, you can open reading logs directly from a shared folder.

Windows

  1. Right-click the folder → select "Properties" → go to the "Sharing" tab → click "Share..."
  2. On another PC, open File Explorer and navigate to \\ComputerName\SharedFolder
  3. In Reading Forest, use [File] → [Open] and select the reading log from the shared folder

Mac

  1. [System Settings] → [General] → [Sharing] → Turn on "File Sharing" and add a shared folder
  2. On another Mac, open Finder → [Go] → [Connect to Server] → Enter smb://ComputerName
  3. In Reading Forest, use [File] → [Open] and select the reading log from the shared folder

No internet connection or Google account required. You can also access files from a NAS (Network Attached Storage) the same way.
