Can I read and write files on Google Drive?

Yes, you can load reading notes files stored on Google Drive and edit/save them just like local files.

What You Can Do

  • Open files directly from Google Drive
  • Save edited content to Google Drive
  • Access the same file from any device - PC, smartphone, or tablet (with an internet connection, you can add or review reading records anywhere - on the train or at a cafe)

Current Limitations (as of January 2026)

Until Google's verification is complete, the following features are limited:

  • Cannot display folder list in Google Drive - Folder selection in file picker is not available
  • Cannot search existing files - Cannot list files already saved in Google Drive
  • Only files created/saved by Reading Forest - Files saved through Reading Forest can be opened
  • Manually uploaded files cannot be opened - .rfnote files uploaded directly via PC or smartphone's Google Drive app are not visible from Reading Forest. Please always use the "Cloud" → "Save" function in Reading Forest

These limitations will be removed once Google's OAuth verification is complete. After verification, you'll be able to freely browse Google Drive folders and open any file.

About Save Folder

Files are saved to a dedicated folder automatically created in Google Drive.

  • Japanese language setting: "読書の森" folder
  • English language setting: "Reading Forest" folder

Note: Changing your language setting will change the save folder. Japanese and English use separate folders, so previously saved files may not appear. In that case, switch back to the previous language setting to open the files.
