Can I export my data?

Yes, you can export your reading notes in multiple formats to local storage or the cloud.

Save Methods

  • Local Save: Save as a file on your PC, tablet, or smartphone
  • Google Drive Save: Save to the cloud and share across multiple devices
  • Export: Output in formats usable by other apps (Excel, CSV, Text, Markdown, HTML, BibTeX)

Export Formats

  • Excel format (.xlsx)
    Opens directly in Microsoft Excel. Formatted for easy readability.
  • CSV format (.csv)
    Opens in Excel or spreadsheets. Great for data analysis.
  • Text format (.txt)
    A simple text file that opens on any device.
  • Markdown format (.md)
    Outputs book information and reading records with cover images. Compatible with Markdown apps like Notion and Obsidian.
  • HTML format (.html)
    Viewable in browsers. Share while maintaining layout.
  • BibTeX format (.bib)
    Use as references in academic writing tools (LaTeX, etc.).

You can also output as PDF using the print function.

How to View Markdown Files (.md)

You can easily preview exported Markdown files on your device.

  • Smartphone/Tablet (Easiest)
    Upload to Google Drive app and it will automatically format and display.
  • Mac / iPhone / iPad
    Select the file and press space to preview with the built-in Quick Look feature (no additional app required).
  • Windows
    Install the free "QuickLook" app from Microsoft Store to preview with the space key like on Mac.
  • Android
    View with Google Drive app, or free Markdown viewer apps like "Markor" from Play Store.

Important Note

Exported files cannot be re-imported into Reading Forest. For backup purposes, always save in .rfnote format.
