By using this Software, you are deemed to have agreed to all terms of this Agreement. If you do not agree, please do not use this Software.

About Our Service Audience

"Reading Forest" is a general-purpose service. It is NOT a child-directed platform.

  • Target Audience: All readers, regardless of age
  • Children Under 13: May only use this service with parental consent and supervision
  • Advertising: Age-based controls are implemented
    • Under 13: No advertisements (COPPA compliant)
    • Ages 13-17: Non-personalized ads only (child-directed protection applied)
    • 18 and over: Standard advertisements

Article 1 (Definitions)

The definitions of terms used in this Agreement shall be as follows:

  1. "Software": The reading management web application "Reading Forest" provided by the Company, and the collective term for related programs, documentation, updates, and accessories
  2. "User": An individual or corporation that uses the Software
  3. "Account": Personal identification information created by a User to use the Software
  4. "Content": Data created, stored, and transmitted by Users through the Software (reading notes, memos, images, etc.)
  5. "Reading Notes" or "Reading Notes Data": The collective term for all data created and saved by Users through the Software. Specifically, this includes all reading-related records and information such as book information (title, author, publisher, ISBN, etc.), reading dates, page numbers, progress information, memos, impressions, and quotations.
  6. "Free Plan": A plan that allows free use of basic features of the Software
  7. "Paid Plan": A paid subscription plan that includes additional features
  8. "Parent/Guardian": A person who exercises parental authority over a minor
  9. "Child Account": An account created and managed by a parent/guardian for users under 13 years of age

About Terminology

In this Service, data created and saved by users is referred to as "Reading Notes." This includes all reading-related information such as book information, reading progress, memos, and impressions.

Article 2 (Scope of License)

2.1 Grant of License

The Company grants Users a non-exclusive right to use the Software in accordance with the terms of this Agreement.

2.2 Restrictions on Use

Users shall not engage in the following activities:

  1. Analyzing, decompiling, disassembling, or reverse engineering the source code of the Software
  2. Copying, modifying, adapting, or creating derivative works of the Software or any part thereof
  3. Redistributing, reselling, lending, leasing, or sublicensing the Software
  4. Circumventing or disabling technical protection measures of the Software
  5. Removing or altering copyright notices, trademarks, or other proprietary notices in the Software
  6. Using the Software to engage in illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, or rights-infringing activities
  7. Copyright Infringement: Engaging in activities beyond the scope of private use permitted by copyright law regarding books, magazines, papers, and other copyrighted works, including:
    • Transcribing entire or substantially entire books as memos
    • Recording large amounts of text exceeding the scope of quotation and sharing it with unspecified parties
    • Using the Software in a manner that unfairly harms the legitimate interests of authors, publishers, bookstores, etc.
    • Sharing information about pirated or illegally copied content through the Software

Important Notes Regarding Copyright

This Software is a tool for managing your reading records and personal memos. Please note the following:

  • Transcribing large amounts of book content may exceed the scope of "reproduction for private use" under copyright law
  • Please use memos within the scope of personal learning and research
  • When sharing memos with third parties, please follow citation rules (citing sources, using only necessary portions, etc.)
  • We recommend purchasing or reading books through legitimate means

2.3 Prohibition of Modified Versions

Users shall not create, publish, or distribute modified versions of the Software. Modified versions include but are not limited to:

  1. Versions that circumvent plan restrictions of the Software
  2. Versions that disable authentication features of the Software
  3. Versions that modify the source code of the Software

Article 3 (Use by Minors)

Building Reading Habits Together with Your Child

Reading Forest is a general-purpose service, NOT a child-directed platform. While users of all ages are welcome, children (especially those under 13) must use this service only with parental consent and supervision.

Age-Based Advertising Controls

Our service collects users' date of birth during registration and implements age-based advertising controls. This is a technical measure to protect children's privacy and safety.

  • Under 13: No advertisements (COPPA compliant)
  • Ages 13-17: Non-personalized ads only (no behavioral tracking)
  • 18 and over: Standard advertisements

3.1 Age Restrictions and Parental Consent

Reading Forest is available to users of all ages, but to comply with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), and Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information, the following conditions apply depending on age.

For children under 13 to use this Service, a parent/guardian must create the child account:

3.2 How to Create a Child Account

"Child Accounts" for children under 13 are created by parents/guardians through the following steps:

  1. Create parent account: First, create your own (parent/guardian) account
  2. Add child account: Go to "Child Account Management" in Settings and select "Add Child Account"
  3. Enter child's information: Set your child's nickname, date of birth, and password
  4. Share with your child: Share the created login information with your child

About Your Child's Privacy:
Reading Notes content includes your child's personal thoughts and impressions, which are an important privacy area. The Company respects children's free expression and inner growth, and Reading Notes content cannot be viewed even by parents/guardians. However, account management and deletion can be performed by parents/guardians.

3.4 Parental Responsibilities

Parents/guardians bear the following responsibilities:

  1. Agreement to Terms: Agree to these Terms and Privacy Policy on behalf of the child
  2. Supervision: Appropriately supervise the child's use of this Service
  3. Personal Information Management: Regularly check that the child's personal information is being handled appropriately
  4. Prevention of Violations: Guide the child not to engage in activities that violate these Terms

3.5 Age Verification and Prohibition of False Declaration

  1. Please enter your accurate date of birth when registering your account
  2. Creating an account with a false age is prohibited
  3. The Company reserves the right to delete accounts without notice if false age declaration is discovered

3.6 Treatment When Reaching Age 13

  1. When a user with a child account reaches age 13, they will be guided to transition to a regular account
  2. Parental supervision is recommended but not required after the transition
  3. Existing Reading Notes data will be retained after the transition

3.7 Account Management and Deletion by Parents/Guardians

Parents/guardians can manage and delete their child's account at any time:

  1. Log in with your registered parent/guardian email address and go to "Settings" → "Account"
  2. The "Child Account Management" section will show child accounts registered under your guardianship
  3. Click the "Delete" button for the account you wish to delete
  4. After confirmation, there is a 30-day grace period before the account information is permanently deleted from our servers
  5. Reading history and bookshelf data stored on your child's device (local/Google Drive) will not be affected

A Note to Parents/Guardians

Reading Forest is a tool to nurture your child's reading habits and support their learning. Please keep the following in mind:

  • Create an account together with your child and teach them how to use it
  • Regularly check your child's reading notes and create opportunities to discuss books together
  • Occasionally verify that your child is not recording inappropriate content in their memos
  • Manage passwords together with your child and keep them confidential from others

⚠️ Cautions

  • The memo feature is intended for learning purposes. Please refrain from copying large amounts of copyrighted material
  • Please guide your child not to record others' personal information or inappropriate content in their memos
  • Teach your child about safe internet usage

Article 4 (Intellectual Property Rights)

Copyright, patent rights, trademark rights, and all other intellectual property rights relating to the Software belong to the Company or third parties who have granted licenses to the Company.

Trademarks

Google, Google Drive, and Google Chrome are trademarks of Google LLC. Other company names, product names, and service names used in this service are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners.

Article 5 (Plans and Fees)

5.1 Free Plan

The Free Plan has the following limitations:

📢 About Advertising

The Free Plan displays advertisements to users aged 18 and over to help cover service operating costs. No advertisements are displayed to users under 13, and only non-personalized advertisements are displayed to users aged 13-17.

5.2 Paid Plans

Paid plans offer the following features:

5.3 Payment of Fees

  1. Paid plan fees are in the form of monthly subscriptions
  2. All fees are displayed and charged in Japanese Yen (JPY)
  3. Fees are clearly stated on the Company's website in advance
  4. Payment methods include credit card and other methods designated by the Company
  5. For credit cards issued outside Japan, additional currency conversion fees may be charged by your card issuer
  6. Minors subscribing to paid plans require parental consent and payment

5.4 Free Trial

Important Information About Trials:

  1. Free trial of paid plans is available up to 3 times per user
  2. Each trial period is 30 days
  3. After the trial ends, you will NOT be automatically charged and will transition to the Free Plan
  4. Waiting period until next trial (from trial end date):
    • After 1st trial: 3 months
    • After 2nd trial: 6 months
    • After 3rd trial: 12 months

5.5 Group Plan Member Management

Group Plans include the following member management features:

5.5.1 Member Deletion and Contract Slot Options

  1. Group owners can choose the following options when deleting members:
    • Maintain contract slots: Contract slots remain as is after deletion. You can invite new members. Fees remain unchanged.
    • Reduce contract slots: Reduce contract slots to the number of people after deletion. Reduced fees apply from the next billing date.
    • Transition to Personal Plan: If the group becomes 1 person (owner only), you can transition to the Personal Plan. Applies from the next billing date.
  2. Multiple members can be deleted simultaneously
  3. When reducing contract slots, new fees apply from the next billing date
  4. Current contract slots are maintained until the next billing date

5.5.2 Transition from Group Plan to Personal Plan

  1. When deleting the last member, leaving only the owner:
    • Maintain Group Plan (2-person slot ¥570/month), or
    • Transition to Personal Plan (¥380/month)
  2. Transition to Personal Plan:
    • Personal Plan fees apply from the next billing date
    • The group will be dissolved
    • No prorated refunds will be issued

5.5.3 Daily Limit on Member Changes

  1. To prevent abuse, member changes are limited to 10 times per day
  2. The limit resets at 0:00 Japan time
  3. If multiple changes are made before the next billing date, the last change will be applied
  4. If you reach the limit, please try again the next day

5.5.4 Fees When Changing Member Count

  1. When increasing members:
    • Additional fees for the increase are charged immediately on a prorated basis
    • Example: If you increase from 10 to 15 members mid-month, additional fees for 5 members are charged for the remaining days only
  2. When decreasing members:
    • New fees apply from the next billing date
    • Current fees continue until the next billing date, and current contract slots (member count) can be used during that period
    • No prorated refunds will be issued

Article 6 (Subscription Cancellation and Account Deletion)

6.1 Account Management

  1. Users are responsible for managing their own account information (name, email address, password, etc.)
  2. Users bear responsibility for any damage caused by insufficient account management, usage errors, or use by third parties, and the Company assumes no responsibility

6.2 Subscription Cancellation

  1. Paid plans can be cancelled at any time
  2. After cancellation, paid plan features remain available until the end of the current billing period
  3. After the billing period ends, you will automatically transition to the Free Plan

6.3 Refund Policy

  1. Paid plans operate on a monthly prepaid basis
  2. No refunds will be issued for any reason for the current month's payment already made
  3. After cancellation, paid plan features continue to be available for the remaining period (until the end of the current billing period)

6.4 Account Deletion Procedure

  1. Users can delete their account at any time via the "Delete Account" button on the account settings page
  2. After requesting deletion, a confirmation email will be sent to your registered email address for identity verification
  3. Clicking the link in the confirmation email completes the deletion

6.5 Account Deletion During Paid Plan Subscription

  1. If you delete your account during a paid plan subscription:
    • The subscription will be automatically cancelled at the end of the billing period
    • No prorated refunds will be issued
    • Account information will be completely deleted after a 30-day grace period
  2. If you want to use paid features until the end without receiving a refund:
    • Cancel only the subscription first
    • You can use paid plan features until the end of the current billing period
    • After transitioning to the Free Plan, delete your account if needed

💡 Timing of Account Deletion

If you have a paid plan subscription, we recommend the following steps to avoid any loss:

  1. Cancel the subscription (e.g., cancel on January 20 if you subscribed on January 4)
  2. Use paid features until the end of the billing period (e.g., until February 3)
  3. Delete your account after transitioning to the Free Plan (e.g., on or after February 4)

* No prorated refunds are available, but if you want to use paid features until the end of the billing period, please follow this procedure.

6.6 Data Processing After Deletion

  1. The following data will be completely deleted 30 days after account deletion:
    • Account information (email address, password)
    • Usage history
  2. The following data will be retained for the legal retention period:
    • Payment history (up to 7 years)
    • Minimum logs for fraud prevention (1 year)

About Reading Notes Data:
Reading Notes data is stored on your device or Google Drive (if connected), and is NOT stored on our servers. Therefore, data stored on your device or Google Drive remains after account deletion. If you wish to delete this data, please delete it manually.

Article 7 (Disclaimer)

The Software is provided "as is," and the Company makes no guarantees regarding:

Article 8 (Service Changes, Suspension, and Termination)

8.1 Service Changes

The Company may change or add to the content of this Service without prior notice.

8.2 Service Suspension

The Company may temporarily suspend all or part of this Service in the following cases:

  1. When performing system maintenance, inspection, or repair
  2. When operation of this Service becomes impossible due to fire, power outage, natural disaster, or other force majeure
  3. When the Company determines that suspension is necessary for other reasons

8.3 Service Termination

If the Company terminates provision of this Service, Users will be notified at least 3 months in advance.

Article 9 (Prohibited Actions)

Users shall not engage in the following activities when using this Service:

  1. Actions that violate laws or public order and morals
  2. Actions related to criminal activity
  3. Fraud or threatening actions against the Company, other Users of this Service, or other third parties
  4. Actions that destroy or interfere with the Company's server or network functions
  5. Actions that may interfere with the operation of the Company's services
  6. Unauthorized access
  7. Unauthorized use of other Users' accounts
  8. Collecting or accumulating other Users' personal information
  9. Accessing this Service using automated systems (bots, scraping, etc.) not authorized by the Company
  10. Providing benefits to antisocial forces
  11. Other actions deemed inappropriate by the Company

Article 10 (Usage Restrictions and Account Suspension)

  1. The Company may restrict all or part of this Service usage or suspend the account of Users who fall under any of the following, without prior notice:
    • Violation of any provision of these Terms
    • Discovery of false information in registration details
    • Non-payment of fees or other payment obligations
    • No response to contact from the Company for a certain period
    • When the Company otherwise determines that use of this Service is inappropriate
  2. The Company assumes no responsibility for any damage to Users caused by actions taken under this Article

Article 11 (Changes to These Terms)

  1. The Company may change these Terms when deemed necessary
  2. Changed terms become effective 14 days after being posted on this website
  3. Prior notification will be sent to your registered email address for the following significant changes:
    • Changes that substantially restrict User rights
    • Changes that significantly increase User obligations
    • Major changes to the fee structure
    • Important changes to plan specifications (addition or modification of feature restrictions, etc.)
  4. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the changed Terms

🔄 About Service Specification Changes

The Company may change service specifications including the following for reasons such as service improvement, technical constraints, and legal compliance:

  • Addition, modification, or removal of application features
  • Changes to feature restrictions by plan
  • Changes to data storage capacity or maximum registrable books
  • UI design changes

We will provide advance notice for significant changes, but minor improvements may be implemented without prior notice.

Article 12 (Handling of Personal Information)

The Company handles Users' personal information appropriately in accordance with the Company's Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy can be viewed at the following URL:

Article 13 (Service Region)

  1. This Service is provided for users in Japan
  2. Use of this Service assumes access from within Japan
  3. The Company assumes no responsibility for access and use from outside Japan
  4. Compliance with laws outside Japan may be considered in the future but is not guaranteed at this time

🌏 About International Expansion

Currently, this Service is only provided for users in Japan. If we expand internationally in the future, we will design the service in compliance with each country's regulations.

Article 14 (Governing Law and Jurisdiction)

  1. This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with Japanese law
  2. Disputes relating to this Agreement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Saitama District Court as the court of first instance

Article 15 (Severability)

If any provision of these Terms or any part thereof is determined to be invalid or unenforceable under applicable law, the remaining provisions of these Terms and the remaining parts of any provision that was partially determined to be invalid or unenforceable shall continue in full force and effect.

Article 16 (Survival Clause)

Even after termination of these Terms, Article 4 (Intellectual Property Rights), Article 7 (Disclaimer), and Article 14 (Governing Law and Jurisdiction) shall continue to remain in effect.
