☁️ What is Google Drive Integration?

With Reading Forest, you can connect to Google Drive to save your reading logs in the cloud and share them across multiple devices. Access and edit your notes from your PC on your smartphone or tablet.

Note: Reading Forest does not have automatic sync. You need to manually save to and load from Google Drive.

🚀 Detailed Instructions

Step 1: Connect to Google Drive

  1. Log in to Reading Forest
  2. Click the gear icon at the right end of the toolbar (or select "File" menu → "Settings") to open the Settings screen
  3. From the tabs at the top of the Settings screen, select [Google Drive]
  4. Click the [Connect to Google Drive] button
  5. A popup window will open showing the Google login screen
  6. Log in with your Google account (skip if already logged in)
  7. [Allow] Reading Forest to access Google Drive
  8. Success when you see the "Connection complete" message

Step 2: Save to Google Drive

  1. Enter or edit your reading logs
  2. Click the gear icon at the right end of the toolbar (or select "File" menu → "Settings") to open the Settings screen
  3. From the tabs at the top of the Settings screen, select [Data Management]
  4. Click the [Save to Google Drive] button
  5. Enter a filename (e.g., "Reading Logs 2025.rfnote")
  6. Click [Save] to complete

🔒 Security and Privacy

  • Access Permissions Reading Forest only accesses files you create.
  • Data Encryption Communication with Google Drive is encrypted, ensuring secure data transfer.
  • Disconnect Anytime You can disconnect from Google Drive at any time.

Load from URL

You can directly open reading log files (.rfnote) published on external web servers or cloud storage by specifying their URL. This is convenient when you want to share reading logs with friends or family.

📥 How to Load from URL

  1. From the menu bar, select [File][Open][Load from URL]
  2. When the dialog appears, enter the URL of the file you want to load
    Example: https://example.com/shared/reading-notes.rfnote
  3. Click the [Load] button
  4. The file will be loaded and you can view and edit it as usual

📤 How to Share Your Reading Logs

There are several ways to share your reading logs with others:

Method 1: Share via Google Drive (Recommended)

  1. Save your reading logs to Google Drive
  2. In Google Drive, right-click the file and select [Share][Get link]
  3. Change the access permission to [Anyone with the link]
  4. Copy the displayed link and send it to the person you want to share with
  5. They can open the link using the "Load from URL" feature

Method 2: Share via Dropbox

  1. Save your reading logs locally and place them in your Dropbox folder
  2. In Dropbox, right-click the file and select [Copy link]
  3. Send the copied link to the person you want to share with

Method 3: Publish on Your Own Web Server

  1. Save your reading logs locally (.rfnote format)
  2. Upload the file to your web server
  3. Send the URL of the uploaded file to the person you want to share with

Important Notes:

  • The URL must use HTTPS (encrypted communication). HTTP is not supported
  • Maximum file size is 10MB
  • Loaded files can be viewed and edited, but changes are not automatically saved to the original URL
  • To save your edits, save to your local storage or your own Google Drive
