Ways to Add Books
In Reading Forest, you can add books by automatically fetching information from an ISBN code or by manually entering the details. Register books you want to read or have read and start your reading journal.
How to Add a Book
From Menu
Edit → Add Book
Keyboard Shortcut
Add by ISBN Code (Recommended)
Enter the ISBN code (barcode) found on the back cover of a book to automatically retrieve information such as title and author.
- Click [Edit]→[Add Book]
- The "Add Book" dialog will appear
- Enter the ISBN code in the input field (with or without hyphens)
- Click the "Search" button
- Book information will be automatically filled in
- Review the information and click [OK]
The ISBN code is located near the barcode on the back cover of a book, formatted as "ISBN978-...". It consists of 13 or 10 digits.
When searching by ISBN, the following information is automatically filled in:
- Title
- Author
- Page Count (when available)
- Publisher
- Cover Image (when available)
Manual Entry
For books without ISBN codes, old books, or self-published works, you can manually enter the information.
- Click [Edit]→[Add Book]
- The "Add Book" dialog will appear
- Enter the Title (required)
- Optionally enter Author, Publisher, etc.
- Click [OK]

After Adding a Book
Once you add a book, you can immediately start keeping your reading journal:
- Add Notes - Jot down interesting passages or thoughts
- Track Reading Progress - Record where you are in the book
- Rate the Book - Give it a star rating when finished
- Organize in Bookshelf - Sort by category or tags
You can add books you haven't read yet as a "want to read" list. Just set the status to "Want to Read".
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: The ISBN search didn't find my book
Older books or some publications may not be in the database. In that case, please enter the information manually.
Q: I accidentally added the same book twice
You can delete the duplicate. Go to "Book List", select the book, and delete it. Deleted books are moved to the trash.
Q: Can I edit book information later?
Yes. Open the book and click the "Edit" button in the book information area to change the title, author, etc.
Q: Can I add a cover image later?
Yes, you can upload a cover image in the book information editing screen.
Q: Can I register e-books?
Yes, e-books with ISBN codes can be registered the same way. You can manage your reading records just like physical books.
